Painted Lampshade - DIY

We've had these lamps for at least ten years and I thought you might
like to see how I freshened them up by painting their shades.

If you've followed this blog for very long,
you will have seen these lamps
in almost every picture of our dining room,
and if you're really observant,
you will have noticed that the lamps
have been painted as well.

But back to the Shades -

I'm shameless ... showing you dust and all.

Painted Lampshade DIY
This is how I did it:
I painted the entire surface of each shade with primer.
(Allowed to dry for 4 hours)

Then I painted them with the colors I wanted
(Allowed to dry for 4 hours)

Finally, I distressed them by lightly sanding with a medium grit sanding pad.

Voila`

I actually like the way the lamp shades look in our space, but I'll admit, they're not as wonderful as my inspiration.

It's simply gorgeous, isn't it!

  2. I love it and the distressing looks great. Lamp shades are costly so I too try to recover them or something to freshen them up. I love the paint idea! I sent out ornament exchange partner names earlier...let the fun begin!
