Buzz & I are planning a party for the newly weds in our family and want to give them a few handmade gifts. With that in mind, we're always on the prowl for projects we think they'll like.
Case in point, we ran across a good deal on a box of 80 4x4 ceramic tiles at Habitat for Humanity Restore the other day and immediately thought of...
Ceramic Tile Coasters
(experimental stage - starting with some for us)
I tried decoupaging them directly to the tile but it didn't work
with the product I had on hand, so I went to
- I applied a coat of bonding primer to the surface of the tile
- Allowed it to dry for about an hour
- Followed with another coat of bonding primer, brushing in the opposite direction (I wanted the effect of linen) and this worked.
Once the tiles were completely dry I added the labels.
I've used this decoupage process before...see my "Spring Banner" post under the My DIY tab to see how I did it.
Our newly weds were married in Vegas so I used this flamingo graphic
(also from The Graphic Fairy) for their coasters.
Aren't they cute!
I'll probably do another set though...I'm a silly perfectionists and see to many things wrong with these. Ha!
No worries... I have 72 tiles left!
