Guest Bath (Makeover)

WELCOME GUESTS

When we started working on our home we knew we had to get the Guest Bath pulled together quickly since our Master Bath was in such bad condition.  (When I publish my post about the Master you'll see what I mean.)  At any rate, we're pretty excited that this powder room feels so nice and clean... know our guests are thankful too.  Still have lots to do, but all in due time...

There used to be a door here going into the Guest Bedroom...We closed it off to give us wall space for this wonderful cabinet Buzz built years ago.

We'll revisit this room at some point to add a new counter top, sink, faucet, etc... but until then our guests have some of the comforts of home...including a little Yellow Duck.

Something Creative

Repurposing at it's Best!
On a recent trip to Frisco Mercantile, Buzz spotted this unique piece of art made out of smashed soft drink cans.  Of course it takes a real artist to pull something like this off, but it did cause us to pause and take a look.  Quite fun!

ReStore Light Fixtures (A Makeover)

A recent visit to ReStore (Link) yielded multiple light fixtures.  With a purchase price of less than $30.00 and $5.00 for paint, we have three lovely fixtures we're proud of. An added bonus to this makeover is that we can donate our old fixtures to ReStore ...always a plus!
(See the initial post on our visit to ReStore)

Our ReStore Finds
(that little garden hose caddy was part of our find too...so cute)
For the Master Bath

This fixture is what started it all...We had been looking for something for our Master Bath, and even with the shiny brass glaring at us, we could see the potential.  Simply spray painting the entire fixture with a hammered metal paint did the trick!  We're using that same paint on our cabinet hinges in the kitchen...(double whammy)

For the Guest Bath

This fixture wasn't bad the way it was, but we wanted a softer more French Country look.We simply spray painted a base coat that almost matched our wall color,  then added personality by hand.  It looks beautiful in the Guest Bath...Just exactly what we wanted!

For the Guest Bedroom

This little fixture will be just inside the door of our guest bedroom.   We changed the look by spray painting a base coat of gray, then added the verdigris color by hand.  The fixture still needs to be wired into the room, but we know it will be the perfect addition once it is.

Frisco Mercantile

Yesterday Buzz and I visited "Frisco Mercantile"(Link) and I wanted to share just a few of the sights. Sorry we didn't get the names of individual dealers on any of these pictures, but know you could probably touch base with the folks at the front desk and they could help you out.  The mall is new to Frisco, and apparently it's already a popular destination ... they're expanding!

Visit to ReStore

We made a trip to ReStore (Link) which is a resale store for Habitat for Humanity.  These pictures show a little bit of their inventory which changes daily...always a fun trip.  You just never know what you'll find.

What we brought home

Some light fixtures for our bathrooms and the guest bedroom... We'll customize them for our home, but paid less than $30 for all of them...Sweet!

An exciting find for us was the landscape stone...can't wait to start working it into our yard.

Some spindles that we're hoping to incorporate into our kitchen design...

We did leave this at ReStore... but it did make for an interesting picture... Ha!
(Buzz said there was a pink on in the back..sorry I missed it)

Garden Surprise...

Who wouldn't like a surprise like this...

Buzz, who enjoys organic gardening never misses an opportunity to add compost from the kitchen to his gardens...
We were excited to see this free cantaloupe in our new garden since we know from past experience that some really tasty fruit comes in quick time (even when it wasn't planned)

Repurposing in the Guest Bath

When I have an opportunity, I always try to repurpose things...

These tarnished silver vessels (which I love) once graced a beautiful buffet, however I'm using them for soaps and other necessaries for my guests...

Old apothecary bottles now hold cotton balls, Q-tips, etc.

Candle jars I found at TJ Max were much to pretty to throw away.  After we'd enjoyed the candles, I cleaned them and use them for bath salts, lavender and sea shells...

My house is full of repurposed items... (does that mean I'm green?)

Summertime

Found this on Pinterest this morning...
LOVELY!

Hooten's

When driving to see family in East Texas, we always drive down Main Street in Emory ... in fact the little town of Emory could easily be called Hootenville. Seems like every business on the Main Street has Hooten in the name. (Well, maybe not all) At any rate, we finally decided to stop in at Hooten's Garden Center, next to Hooten's Hardware which is next to Hooten's Self Storage and actually found a few cute ideas for the garden.

I've seen pictures like this before, but this pottery scupture was pretty cute in person.

An "Outhouse" for a garden shed... well, maybe not so much...

Next time I see an old bicycle in the dumpster, I'm going diving...
Buzz made the mistake of telling me he had seen one just the other day, and just didn't know what in the world we would do with it.  (I'm pretty sure he'll grab the next one)

We thought this was a clever idea for a temporary fence... It appears they have used cinder blocks and simply placed cedar posts through the holes...
