Considering Christmas Decorating

Most of our ornaments have been around for years ...

they sleep in crates and hat boxes until Christmastime.

It's always fun to see them from year to year,

but they don't all get to come out and play.

My favorites are the ones my kids made in school ...
with glitter and glue
I especially like the paper ones ...
Ephemera is my weakness
The Reason for the Season
I'll get around to decorating later this week...

I'm still pondering...

Haven't made up my mind just what I want to do...

This is so NOT like me!

Guest Bedroom - Before / After

I can't tell you how many times this room has changed during the past year ...
so I'm sure we'll be tweaking it as time goes by.

This is how it looks

And this is how the room looked before we started working on it.
They said the carpets had been cleaned?!?!

For more detail on what we did, see my Q & A

This room is approximately
12 x 16
and does double duty as our study
(where I'm blogging from)
I think it's fair to say, we use this room
Every Day

We'll be adding / subtracting probably from now on
but I wanted to include it on our

If we make any major changes, you'll be the first to know.

Christmas Carousel

During the Thanksgiving holiday, my sister-in-laws and I visited my favorite antique mall (Frisco Mercantile)
I'd love to get inside the persons mind who created this playful tree!

Everything about it made us smile!

Retirement Bliss

Today was one of those days I used to dream about when I was working 8 to 5.  I'd be thinking ... "I wish I were at home, puttering around the house, baking cookies and listening to Christmas music".  Well... I got to do all of the above today,
and it was
Deliciously Fun!

Played with flowers from Costco

wish I could inject the smell

I Love being retired
I tried a couple of new cookie recipes ...
This was the Best One!

Also made a pecan pie (by special request)
Oh...and some cornbread...for the stuffing I'll be making Thursday.
The piddling part of my day ..
Well, I painted trim moulding in our guest bathroom...One of those jobs I'd been putting off.  Does anyone else wait until company is coming to do little chores like that?  When I think about it...I should plan to have guests at least once a month...
Maybe my to-do list would become a ta-done list!
 Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Birthday Kristina

Isn't this the cutest!
This was my first cook book, and as you can see, it's well worn.
Some of the pages are awfully stained ... with chocolate of course.

My Mother was so sweet to save it for me ...
and she gave it back to me when my daughter was born

Thank You

"...It starts with who God is, not what He's done. He is worthy.”
(Pastor Marcus Brecheen)

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.

Teddy Bears ...

I'm pretty sure little girls never grow up!
I found this set of Teddy Bear paper dolls today
and played for a little while  ...  it was fun dressing him up.
(The original set was published in 1907... mine is a replica)

You have the cunningest of noses,
And such soft and downy hair
And the cutest sort of toes-es
My fuzzy wuzzy Teddy Bear

I do have a few teddy bears and always say they are for
my Granddaughter to play with when she visits...

I have to admit that I keep them out because
I enjoy their company from time to time.

My Mother made the fuzzy wuzzy bear...
Isn't he cute!

Freedom Isn't Free

"The willingness of America's veterans to sacrifice for our
country has earned them our lasting gratitude."
- Jeff Miller

On the 11th Hour
of the 11th Day
of the 11th Month
We Will Remember You

We thank you, God, for all of our country’s veterans—those of past generations, and those who continue to earn this title today. May we never forget what our country has asked of them and what they have given in return. Help us to give them the respect and honor they are due.  -  Rev. John Gundlach

Heart Adjustment...

I woke up this morning going in forty different directions; definitely feeling frazzled and out of control.  Deep down, I knew why, but just hated facing the reality that I had been neglectful of my relationship with God.

I poured a cup of coffee; went to my favorite chair; opened my Bible and quietly focused on each and every word.  He lovingly touched my heart and began moving me in the right direction ...

What was He saying to me?  Well, it went something like this.  "You're focusing on getting the approval of those around you, and I want you to focus on Me.  I'm the one who Blesses you; I'm the one who gives you Joy; I'm the one who gives you that Song."
In just a matter of moments,
I realized God was giving me a heart adjustment.

Within minutes I went from being frazzled to
Happy, Merry, Cheerful

Have you ever seen a heart shaped potato?
I found it just minutes after getting out of my chair this morning.
I Love You Lord!
What a wonderful sense of humor you have.  ":o)

Psalm 108:1 - My heart is confident in you, O God;
no wonder I can sing your praises with all my heart!

Pomander Inspiration

This picture sure stirred up memories of
when my kids were little;
we made Pomanders almost every Christmas.

Holiday Fragrance

To Make Them
Score the design on the orange
(with a citrus striper or channel knife)
Make pilot holes with a nail,
then stud the orange with whole cloves.
We would usually roll our pomanders in a bath of cinnamon
and other spices after we had inserted all the cloves.
Smells So Good!

The kids loved this project!
 adults too..
One year our entire family ... Aunts Uncles Cousins etc...
made them after our Thanksgiving dinner.
It was a nice take away for everyone!

Pomanders usually last for weeks, even months

Let's get Started

A Little Bit Rustic

Normally, Buzz and I don't decorate with these Rustic pieces of crockery ... not inside anyway. They're happy to live on our porches most of the year; however each and every Autumn they make their way inside because they know how warm and cozy they make us feel.
We Call This
"Rustic Wonderfulness"

These warm rustic pieces along with the artisan bread I just baked
are making our day just about as perfect as it can get.
