Front Porch Update

Some projects take longer than others.

 Like our Front Porch

Even though it's not complete,
I've decided to let you see how it's coming along
and
I won't even be tempted to tell you about all the parts that aren't finished.

Where we Started

 To this years Changes

Yellow Bird (see below) is one of my favorite Details.
Buzz had carved him years ago and I found just the perfect spot for him

Yellow Bird , Rusty Hearts & A Yellow Caterpillar

The process has been a little bit like putting lipstick on a pig, but we simply couldn't justify tearing down the original deck.  So ... we've just made the best of what we had.  Eventually, we'll have it just right, even though it's taking us a L O N G time to get there.

In the mean time, we're already enjoying our porch time a whole lot more

We love the sounds of the birds,
the smell of honeysuckle
and
the friendly little
sparrows who pay us a visit.

Oh the Joy!

Porch Time is Definitely Improving!

I'll keep you posted on upcoming changes
(just in case you were wondering)

  1. You and your husband have done a beautiful job, Geneva! Rome wasn't built in a day and each addition and tweak makes it all the more fabulous. LOVE the faux window! And all of your plants along the sidewalk are coming in beautifully. Great job! :)

    Jane

  4. It is really beautiful! Love the pattern on the floors and the crocks on the steps! I wouldn't mind sitting out there with a glass of lemonade and I'll bet I'd be able to smell some of the flowers in your garden too.

  5. I think the two of you are making great progress! Your covered porch looks like the perfect spot to kick back with a glass of iced tea. I especially love your checkered floor. I'm hoping to add a checkered pattern inside our front entry on the worn wood floors. I hope mine turn out as nice as yours!

  6. It all looks so pretty!
I was just telling The Honey-- I wanted to paint the rafters overhead on our porch all white and repaint the trim. Now after seeing your pretty pictures...I really want to!
That porch is inspiring too. :)

"lipstick on a pig"...you crack me up. If you remember, I made a porch rail out of a cast off day bed frame. I call that "doing wonders with rotten cucumbers"!

    enjoy your porch. Pat

  8. I love your porch! I especially like the painted floor. Porches make for such lovely places to spend a lot of time just being ourselves and enjoying nature. I just found your blog (A Stroll Thru Life) and I am your newest follower.
