Christmas in McKinney & Our Anniversary

"If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you."
 - A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh
Buzz and I celebrated our 44th wedding anniversary today.
Has it really been that long?
It seems like only yesterday that we met for the first time.
He had just gotten back from Vietnam
and I had just started my first "real" job.
He was twenty-two and I was twenty.
... It was love at first sight.
Today we celebrated by spending the afternoon in McKinney
This book store was his favorite
and I couldn't pick just one...
We had lunch at the nicest place
and took pictures around the square.
It was the kind of day we both enjoy
and we've hated to see it end.
Buzz found this on our way out this morning.
He liked it because it's shaped like a heart.

How Perfect!

Christmas Wishes...From Our House to Yours!

From our House to Yours
We Wish You
Christmas Blessings!
Buzz & Geneva
We truly appreciate each of you who have followed us on our life's journey this past year and are looking forward to our visits in 2013.

How I made this banner:
1. I copied art from The Graphic's Fairy's website
2.Edited the image in PicMonkey photo editor
(faded the image and added the letters)
3. Printed each letter onto a book page
4. Cut the edges ... rounded the top and scalloped the bottom.
5. Attached each of them to a bright red ribbon
Easy Peasy!

Christmas Copy Cat 2012

Whether I'm reading another blog, or browsing through Pinterest there is almost always something that I want to try and copy. I know I'm not the only one, because Debbie at Debbiedoo's hosts an entire
dedicated to bloggers just like me...

My Holiday Knock Off For 2012
A Simple
inspired by

For my knock off, I printed sheet music from The Graphics Fiary  website onto cardstock, then tried my best to copy the lettering I saw on
Sweat Pea Home's design.
Alas...I didn't have a dress form, so I just hung mine on an old mirror... but Buzz and I think it looks almost as good.

Handmade Holidays ...

Girlfriends deserve a little something extra...that's why I decided to make a little gift for some very special ones that I'll be seeing tomorrow....Just a little something to remember the Christmas of 2012 and perhaps brighten up their tree.

Clear Glass Ball Ornament

Something a little Dainty

I'd like to make one for each of you, but since I can't, I decided to show you how.  Maybe you'd like to make some for your friends too...
  • You'll need clear glass ornaments (found in most craft stores)
You can fill them with whatever you'd like, but this is what I used:
  • White snow flakes
  • Silver beaded garland and floral picks for the bangles (I just cut them apart)
  • White feathers
  • Little silver bells
  • And finally, silver tinsel to tie around the top
Hanging the bell was a little tricky, that's why I showed you how I did it in the collage above... Once I figured it out, it was easy peasy and believe me, that little bell makes all the difference...

Now, all I need to do is add a name tag to each one,
and they're ready for the giving.

"We'll be Friends Forever, won't we, Pooh? asked Piglet.
Even Longer, 'Pooh answered."    ― A.A. MilneWinnie-the-Pooh

ps:  What happens at the party, stays at the Party (sometimes we forget our age)

Reflecting on Blogging and Christmas 2012

If you're a regular reader, you've noticed that I haven't been posting a lot lately.  Let's just say, life's gotten in the way....

Then I've had to ask myself, "Why am I doing this?"  If you're a blogger, do you ever ask yourself that question?  I've had to take some time and reflect on it a bit.

As Winnie the Pooh would say, I was "thinking it over, thinking it under".

What started out as a blog about how we've downsized and remodeled our home has turned into so much more.  I get letters on a regular basis from people who've been encouraged by the lifestyle we've chosen, and in turn their letters encourage me.

At any rate, good Lord willing, I'll continue to share bits and pieces of our life with you and let Him do the encouraging from time to time.

Christmas 2012
Ice Skates in the Reading Nook
A Little Kitchen Cheer
Folk Art Tree in the Guest Bedroom
(waiting for Penelope)
and A Cheerful Garden Shed.
(what a lovely Christmas gift)

now, about that lifestyle I was talking about
I was up at 4:30 a.m. yesterday decorating while Buzz was fast asleep.  We both liked it that way.  When he did get up he served me a nice cup of hot chocolate and was wise enough to tell me how nice everything looked ...
It was a Sweet, Good, Morning!
(something I don't take for granted)
I'll be sharing more pictures of our Christmas in 2012; I just didn't want to over power you in one sitting.  After all, I'll need something to write about tomorrow, then the next day, then the next...well, you get the idea.
ps... in case you're wondering...I took a nice long afternoon nap to recover from my 4:30am decorating escapade.

Christmas at Anthropologie

Do you have a shop that you like to visit ... just for the sake of inspiration?

I'll admit that it takes a lot to impress me, but there is one store that does it every single time.  Therefore, when I get within five miles of any of their shops my car knows just what to do.  If you've never visited an Anthropologie all I can say is... "treat yourself" because their creativity will speak to all five senses.

Anthropologie in Southlake, Texas

When I visited a local store a few weeks ago, I was delighted by this full size paper mache reindeer and bird in flight.  I just stood there amazed, wondering what kind of mind thinks up these glorious displays!

Even their street side windows were spectacular... at first I thought this design was painted on, but it's like a giant scherenschnitte.
Who does this?

I'd love to see the Anthropologie elves in action...
and maybe let some of their elfish talent rub off on me.... ":o)

I'll admit that I don't always just look when I visit Anthroplogie...I would say that Buzz hates it when I go, but he's my equal when it comes to finding little treasures there.

We Both Love It!

ps:  If you follow my facebook page, I know you've already seen some of these pictures, but it was worth sharing them again.

Nana's Best Christmas Decorating Inspiration Ever...

(the day after Thanksgiving)

I decided
to pull my itty bitty fake Christmas tree
out of storage
to see if I could use it one more year.

What put me in the Christmas Spirit?

It was my phone call from Penny;

she's coming for Christmas!

It's been a long time between hugs,

so this Nana is pretty excited

ready to make some special memories!
