Just a Little Gift...

When my daughter asked for help with her
Autumn decorating, I immediately thought of
this little guy I had found on Pinterest.

Source: via Geneva on Pinterest

It's Just a Little Gift...
I hadn't embroidered in MANY years
but this pattern seemed simple enough.
(Well... it turned out to be harder than I thought)
Ergo...Mine is simplified. I have a lot to learn!
She's excited about it though
and that's all that matters right now...

I secured the "art" to a piece of foam core
with stainless steel straight pins.
Easy! Peasy!
The frame is pine
that has been painted black
and distressed for added character.

I'm not discouraged... I'll try again!
In the mean time,
I need to find a better way
to transfer patterns to fabric...
and I need to practice some of
my stitches.

You should download Andrea's pattern
and try this for yourself.

Patina Adds Character...

Almost everything in our home has Patina
...for instance...
This little horse ... a 1920's toy has lived with us for several years...
Our kids, grand daughter and even visiting children
have ridden him with glee.. he has a lovely gait!

The old boxes hold Christmas ornaments ...
safe and sound for each holiday season.
When nicely stacked, they also serve as a night stand.
(I might show them to you again at Christmas..)
They are just as pretty inside!

We bought this little guy intending to sell him...
but he never made it to the store.
He just makes us feel happy!

Even though it's the people who give our home it's soul
these little things and everything else
with lovely patina
are what

Sunday Morning...

Suitable for framing...

When we're out in the open air markets, thrift stores etc, you'll often hear one of us say "That's suitable for framing"

Here are a few of those things that actually made it to our walls!

We call this piece "Sister Lizzy" because it has a picture of a little girl we found at a flea market, along with a letter we found at an antique store (Written to Sister Lizzy).  Combined with a fabric wrapped mat and antique style moulding they make a very nice
 art piece in our home.
 It always makes us smile!

We got the shoes and song book from our neighbors estate sale.  She was near and dear to us and when we realized they had actually belonged to her we knew we didn't want to part with them.  Buzz found the little toy gun when digging in our garden...Paired with the mat covered in old sheet music they all have their place of honor.

The old trumpet was a flea market find, but it's really pretty when you see it up close and personal... and is very time worn!  The hymnal came from the church I attended as a child...and other elements are bits and pieces from family members or market finds.
The beauty of this shadow box is that the front is actually a door that you can open anytime to add more things
(...and we have, even flowing over to the top...":o)
I should tell you that my husband and I owned and operated a custom picture framing business for about ten years, so we definitely had an advantage ...

However, with the beautiful ready made frames available now, and some of these basic ideas, I'm sure you could frame some of your finds as well.

Add some personality to your home!

Just about anything is suitable for framing!

Where did I get that bee?...

Several people have asked ....
As a new blogger I can't tell you how thrilled I was to find
"The Graphics Fairy"
A blogger friendly site that has free downloads ...
plus links to
wonderful ideas on how to use them.

I recently found this Bee on her site
And decided I had to incorporate it into my blog...

It presently separates the elements on my sidebar ...

(I have an affection for Bees... maybe it's because my husbands
nick name is Buzz... ":o)

Thank You Graphics Fairy!

The Graphics Fairy

Hearts, Hearts, Hearts...

By the title of my blog you might think that I collect hearts...
but that's not exactly true.
However, I do have a few that are special to me.
Like this one for instance...

This Beeswax Heart
has been around our house for a long time
(as you can see by the wear and tear)
I love it because it reminds me of my husband

Then there is this one...
My daughter made it for me when she was a little girl
It's missing a couple of buttons now
But Who Cares!

This one...
It's a locket with my sons picture inside.
When he was deployed to a war zone
this one had special meaning.

And finally...
This one reminds me of something I did
a long time ago and need to
think about doing again...

 Not A Heart!
(Tee Hee)

This blog is more about listening than collecting
and it's title came as a whisper
early one morning ...
God whispered in my ear one more time

ReStore Revisited...

Another visit to ReStore yielded a few more photographs...
These items weren't for sale, but just the same
they are "Blog Worthy"

This little guy made out of tin cans
resides  just above their counter...
(Just hanging around waiting for his picture to be taken)

Loved the charm of this old scale ... rust and all
They use it to weigh nails and screws
Isn't it Attractive!

I love this ...
It took me a minute to get the jest of it,
but that's just me.
(You'll probably catch on way before I did)

 Have a nice weekend!

Where I Blog From ...

This old kitchen table serves as my desk ... I have it positioned right in front of the bay window in our Guest Bedroom/Study. Just outside these windows we have bird feeders and a bird bath which provide a constant source of entertainment (or distraction)
This Kitty Pillow for my chair
reminds me of our old friend Popeye
(who was our family pet for years)
Plus it saves my back...
The old globe was a thrift store find many years ago and is a constant reminder of our loved ones who are serving overseas...

You'll have to check out the Blogroll ...  some of the blogs I follow inspire me beyond belief.

Baking A Gift

 Fresh Baked Bread

I'm not a baker by any means, but I have managed
to do pretty well with a recipe I found in
It took a few tries, but I finally did well enough
to share with my neighbors and friends.
(The article is lengthy, but worth the effort)

The Master Recipe:  Boule (Artisan Free-Form Loaf)
3 cups lukewarm water
1 1/2 tbsp granulated yeast (1 1/2 packets)
1 1/2 tbsp coarse kosher or sea salt
6 1/2 cups unsifted, unbleached, all-purpose white flour
(Cornmeal for the pizza peel)                         Makes 4 one pound loaves

Their website gives detailed instructions
along with  several variations to this basic recipe.
Hope you'll try it out!

Happy Birthday Penelope...

Little girls are precious gifts like birds and brooks and streams...
Their hair is tied up with ribbons and bows...
Their hearts are tied up with dreams...

I've always liked the idea of journaling, but being the visual person that I am, photo journalism has always been more comfortable for me.  However, for some time now, I've been journaling after I read my Bible and it's really making a difference in my life.

It's like having a "Conversation With God"...  me talking to Him and Him talking back to me. How very precious each and every page has been to me.

Love expressed ... over and over again!

So... Another Journal...
My niece recently asked me (as part of one of her assignments) to send her a memory from my past with an explanation of how that memory had impacted my life.

The very act of stopping and actually thinking about my memories brought such joy, that I've decided I need to remember, and write one down each and every day.  (I'm going for the good ones)'s easy to remember mistakes...don't even have to stop and think about those...ha!
I have a feeling this journaling experiment is going to be very positive for me.

Love expressed ... over and over again!

September has always been the month I decorate for Autumn...
I know some people wait until October, but I just can't...
Maybe it's that old retail mentality...
Whatever it is...the decorating must be done...
Yesterday, I opened my storage trunk...pulled out a few things
and started the Annual Event.
Baked A Spice Cake with Carmel Icing
(a new recipe... we'll see how it tastes today)

Hung this Redware plate that I've had for years...
 Loved seeing it again!

That lovely gourd... I've had it for years too...
it's like an old friend...

My kids used to call this a "Moonshine Jug"
but for now ... it's an Autumn Vase (Repurposed.. :o)

It was a fun day!
And now... with a spicy candle burning,
 and family coming for lunch...
Let the Season Begin!

A Visit To My Brother's Home...

Today I visited my brother's home
and got inspired one more time...
The fresh new wall color, and lovely decor
prompted some informal photographs...

Blessings to all who enter ...
Family Heirlooms & Collectables Have a Place of Honor

Each Item Has Meaning...
Personal Touches...
My brother designed and built the mantle surround (and painted the walls)
His wife decorated the rooms as well as designed many of it's elements...

It's light and airy, relaxing and peaceful.
The Wall Color...they couldn't find what they liked, so they designed their own.
It's perfect!
